"Volunteers need to know how much these blankets mean...
So many of these kids come to us with no belongings of any kind. They may be trauma victims, coming out of foster care, or hospitalization. Giving a child something tangible, cozy, and new in their greatest moment of need provides immediate comfort, and inspires hope."

The above blankets are just a handful of the donation provided by a corporate team of 30 who established the first blanket bank of its kind with Words & Warmth for Alexander Youth Network.
FAQs for Corporate Volunteers
What type of companies have volunteered with Words & Warmth in the past?
Corporate volunteers are very common for Words & Warmth. Donating time collectively can unify individuals, connecting them on a deeper level to something outside of themselves. Many corporate teams from large and small companies have enjoyed spending time together creating blankets, gift tags, and preparing other handcrafted items for local deliveries.
What donations can our company provide to Words & Warmth?
We are now an official 501(c)(3) organization! We are able to accept monetary donations as well as NEW fleece material to use for blanket making. We also accept NEW ribbon to connect our gift tags to each handcrafted item, soft yarn for knitted projects, and un-assembled fleece tied blanket kits.
We are also always in need of encouraging, educational, and inspirational messaging to use as gift tags. Gently stored greeting cards can be repurposed for tags. Bookmarks and notecards of all shapes and sizes are perfect for this use. We also will often find inexpensive flashcards at the dollar store with words and definitions. This type of educational material is perfect for the items being tagged for children.
Where do large groups volunteer for Words & Warmth?
Groups typically choose to meet in a space large enough to craft in together that is convenient for them. Sometimes this is a conference room at the office, a member's home, a church meeting space, etc.
Our founder, or one of our regional leaders, will join your meeting to briefly explain the organization, what items the group will be working on together, and where donations will be delivered.
What supplies will we need?
Please encourage group members to bring their own sharp scissors - appropriate for cutting through thicker blanket fleece. Paper supplies and ribbon will also be needed to create and attach tags for each item. If you need help coming up with inspiration sayings for your tags, we have a PDF you can download to get you started.
Fleece tied blankets are available as prepackaged (unifinished) project kits at local craft stores for approximately $15 - $20/kit, depending on sizes selected and sale price. Corporations decide how many kits they'd like to donate and create during their volunteer time block.
Our founder, or a regional Words & Warmth leader, will contact you to disucss the specifics of your group's donation intentions, and will help guide you if you have questions about how many kits you should purchase in advance for your group.
How long will it take?
Corporate groups typically volunteer for a 2-4 hour block of time. A group of 30 volunteers may spend about 4 hours to work, and will end up with a donation of 45-50 blankets. One fleece tied blanket often takes 1 - 1-1/2 hours to complete.
